COYAD Leadership Training "Team Development"

During this leadership training, students learned about the various stages of team development such as forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. We concluded the session with fun holiday games.

COYAD was honored to highlight volunteers and community leaders that supported COYAD and  those who went beyond to be a servant leader in 2022. The awards that were presented were Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Achievement Service Award, and Meritorious Service Award. We were honored to have distinguished guests:

COYAD Starling Elementary School Demonstration and Award Ceremony

The COYAD Shield Club at Starling Elementary celebrated their semester completion of the program with a demonstration and award ceremony. We invited distinguished guests such as  Starling Elementary School principal, Dr. Cooper and Gwinnett County Board Member, Karen Watkins. All the way from Korea, we were honored to have, KyungHo Park,  a 9th degree black belt master from Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters). Students received program completion certificates, Perfect Attendance and Homework Completion Certificates, and Taekwondo Outstanding Performance Certificates.

Karen Watkins was our CYF speaker for this month. Karen spoke about the importance of staying active in the community. Many participants asked questions about her current job, what she does to manage her time, and what she does as her role in the Gwinnett County Public Schools Board Member. Karen Watkins shared that her role as a Board Member is to serve the children and students in our community.


COYAD Student Drug Prevention Education at the Korean-American School of Atlanta

COYAD presented to 80-90 students at the Korean-American School of Atlanta. These students ranged from 4th grade to 8th grade. During this time, students learned about how nicotine can be highly addictive to young teens due to their brains are not fully developed. Students learned how to SAY NO and some students were chosen to role-play saying “no”.

COYAD had the opportunity to present about the importance of drug prevention to parents at the Korean-American School of Atlanta. The parents’ session was held on October 29, 2022, 9:30 am - 10:30 am. Parents learned about the current situation of drugs and how early students are being pressured into trying drugs.

COYAD signs MoU with Mission Agape

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between COYAD and Mission Agape has been signed at the COYAD Atlanta Center on September 18, 2022. Paul B. Lim, President of COYAD, and James Song, President of Mission Agape signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. 


A congratulatory speech was given by the Dekalb County Commissioner, Larry Johnson and Councilwoman of Lilburn City, Yoon-mi Hampton. COYAD and Mission Agape agreed to support each other in the works of  drug prevention and homeless outreach. 

COYAD Shield Club at Starling Elementary School

COYAD is providing drug prevention education and taekwondo sessions at Starling Elementary School. 


The COYAD Shield Club had its first meeting on September 6, 2022. The purpose of COYAD Shield Club is to provide a drug-free environment to the students and leadership training with Taekwondo sessions.

Bully awareness and early drug prevention

On Saturday, August 20, 2022, COYAD Milwaukee Branch hosted the annual back-to-school bully awareness and early drug prevention campaign. The event was divided into two sessions. The first session was drug prevention education for students ages 11 and older and the second session was bully awareness and early drug prevention education for students ages 10 and younger. 


Apart from the education sessions, COYAD held an award ceremony for 11 students who received the certificate of completion for the summer leadership training sessions. In addition, one of the Milwaukee Youth Leaders received the presidential volunteer service bronze medal and one of the Atlanta Youth Leaders received a gold medal. 

COYAD CYF-Leadership Training & Active Shooter Training

COYAD held CYF (COYAD Youth Forum) starting with a leadership training session followed by an active shooter training with the Gwinnett County District Attorney's office investigator, Chris Ford. Investigator Ford explained three principles of action in the event of a shooting. The most important thing is to find a way out and escape, and if it is impossible to escape, find a place to hide and make a barricade, and if you can't run away or hide, you have to fight.


In addition, Gwinnett County District Attorney Madam Patsy Austin-Gatson, visited the seminar and said, "We provide various education for the safety of the Gwinnett County residents, and we are happy to have a good network and provide good influence to the community through programs hosted by organizations such as COYAD."  

COYAD Back to School Campaign

On Saturday, July 30, COYAD participated in the Back to School event hosted by South Gwinnett High School from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and participated in the second annual Back to School celebration hosted by The Sheriff’s Office at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds from 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM, which is located at 2405 Sugarloaf Parkway. 


COYAD provided students with drug prevention flyers, free bags, and water bottles.  

COYAD signs MoU with the World Taekwondo Headquarters Kukkiwon

 

Monday, July 25, 2022


A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between COYAD and the World Taekwondo Headquarters, Kukkiwon has been signed at the Kukkiwon head office. 


Jeon Gap-gil, Kukkiwon Chairman of the Board and Paul B. Lim, President of COYAD signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. 

COYAD at the Gwinnett County Jr District Attorney & Investigator Program

COYAD collaborated with the Gwinnett County District Attorney by providing drug awareness education at the Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office’s inaugural Jr. DA and Jr. Investigator program. 


The Gwinnett County Jr. DA & Investigator Program was a 10-day program from June 15th to June 24th at the DA's Office where about 20 high school and college interns participated. The program provided the students the opportunity to learn everything that the DA’s Office does and how other agencies in Gwinnett play in the criminal justice system. COYAD provided drug awareness education and how vaping is increasing in the school.

On Saturday, June 18 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, COYAD hosted the third COYAD Youth Forum - Career Talk at the COYAD Atlanta Center. Korean Air Flight Attendant Dawoon Jeong was invited to introduce her career. She introduced her career as a flight attendant and how to become a good leader. 


COYAD Career Talk is a 12-week series program that invites professionals and specialists from the local community every month to provide youth with information on various careers and provide opportunities to hear expert advice on related occupations.

On Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, COYAD hosted the third Leadership Training Session at the COYAD Atlanta Center. 


The theme of session 3 was Leading Yourself. Students learn the steps for achieving a vision and were able to lay out their own visions by using the SMART Goals.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

COYAD celebrated the COYAD Atlanta Community Center with a ribbon cutting on June 10, 2022. 


Gwinnett County Commissioner, Kirkland Carden, GCPS Board of Education, Karen Watkins, Georgia, House of Rep., District 96, Pedro Marin, Georgia, House of Rep., District 103, Soo Hong, Solicitor General, Brian Whiteside, Office of the District Attorney MPA, Terrell L. Patrick, Lilburn Councilwoman, Yoon-mi Hampton, Snellville Councilwoman, Solange Destang, Gwinnett Chamber President, Nick Masino, COYAD Education Advisor, William C. Madden Jr.attended the event and gave a congratulatory remark. 


COYAD President Paul Lim delivered an opening remark which was followed by COYAD Youth Leader Shelly Mao's speech. COYAD PR Manager Lydia Lim introduced COYAD's mission and vision. President Lim said, "The COYAD Atlanta Community Center will continue to develop beneficial programs for teenagers such as drug prevention education, youth leadership training, and career talks." COYAD's mission is to build anti-drug clubs at each school, hold anti-drug campaigns, and provide education and training to youth leaders and parents.

Dr. Jay Hoyoung Lee PH.D. was invited to introduce his career. He was a Dean at Bang College of Business of KIMEP University and the Founding Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at KIMEP University.


COYAD Career Talk is a 12-week series program that invites professionals and specialists from the local community every month to provide youth with information on various careers and provide opportunities to hear expert advice on related occupations.

COYAD ATLANTA CYF - Career Talk

On Saturday, April 30 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, COYAD hosted the first COYAD Youth Forum - Career Talk at the COYAD Atlanta Center. BT Parker an attorney at law and a Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Candidate was invited to introduce her career.


COYAD Career Talk is a 12-week series program that invites professionals and specialists from the local community every month to provide youth with information on various careers and provide opportunities to hear expert advice on related occupations.


In the second part of the event, COYAD held the Advisor and Member Orientation explaining the mission and the importance of drug prevention at school. On this day, President Paul Lim appointed BT Parker as a legal advisor and Georgia State professor William Madden as an educational advisor.


COYAD is providing drug prevention education and leadership education to protect our youth. COYAD's goal is to open student-centered youth drug prevention clubs on middle school, high school, and university campuses. COYAD's first target is to open clubs in 35 middle schools and 27 high schools in Gwinnett County.

COYAD participates at the 316 United Nations of Gwinnett Forum at the Snellville City Hall

COYAD participated at the 316 United Nations of Gwinnett Forum at the Snellville City Hall Monday, April 18, 2022 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The theme of the forum was about adapting Snellville's slogan in Gwinnett County. Snellville City Mayor Barbara Bender and former city councilman Mike Sabbagh shared their life experience in Snellville for more than 32 years.

On Saturday, April 16th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, COYAD hosted the first Leadership Training Session at the COYAD Atlanta Center. The program started with sharing "5 Things About Me" and playing a relay drawing game to get to know each other. 


The theme of session 1 was "Communication." The goal of this session was to understand the 2 out of 4 components of communication and to learn about the importance of the speaker’s body language and the audience's body language.

COYAD becomes a member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce!

COYAD participated at the  Gwinnett Chamber 101 event on Tuesday, April 12 at 11:30 AM. Gwinnett Chamber 101 is a networking function occurring every other month that provides an opportunity for new members or existing members who need a refresher to learn about Chamber programs. We are exited to be a member and we are looking forward to meet new organizations! 

Easter Bunny Photoshoot

On Sunday, April 3rd from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, COYAD hosted a photoshoot event with the Easter Bunny! Each family (max 6 family members) had 10 minutes for the photoshoot and 5-10 photos were shared with them digitally via email. 

We also provided easter eggs filled with chocolate to the participants and promoted the leadership training COYAD is planning to have.

316 United Nations of Gwinnett hosted an open house at Suwanee Town Center Park on March 16 in commemoration of the first anniversary of the shooting victims in Atlanta. The event was co-hosted by Council of Youth Anti-Drug, G-Sound Saxophone Club, Karate Atlanta, The Atlanta Korean Association, and the Southeast Korean Federation.


About 70 people attended the event from 5 p.m. that day. The event was held in three parts under the theme of ONE Gwinnett. Chairman Son Dong-Moon's G Sound Saxophone Club held an event with a saxophone performance. The first section's theme was MEMORY, where speakers made speeches to commemorate and remember the 3.16 victims. The second theme was ONE, where Former Gwinnett County Chairperson Charlotte Nash and Former Buford City Schools Superintendent Beauty Baldwin gave a speech stating that all races should become one. The last theme was HOPE where the speakers gave a speech to move forward together with hope. COYAD President Paul Lim said, "What we need to do in the future is to create a safe and healthy environment for our children, and our vision and hope are the youth who will lead the region in the future."


At the conclusion of the event, the 316 United Nations of Gwinnett Forum announced that it will continue to do its best to develop friendly relationships with all races in the Gwinnet and expand our scope (of mutual understanding and cooperation) in the distant future.

 Interfaith Prayer Brunch with District Attorney  PATSY AUSTIN-GATSON and  Faith Leaders

COYAD President Paul B. Lim was invited to participate in the first Interfaith Prayer Brunch on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 10:00 am until noon by District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson.  The purpose of the event was to provide an opportunity for our diverse Faith Leaders to meet, exchange ideas, and contribute to the vast task of criminal justice leadership.


Patsy Austin-Gatson said as District Attorney, she is entrusted with daily decisions regarding the safety of our citizens.  The charging, indicting, trial, and sentencing of offenders who enter our overburdened-criminal-justice system affects each one of us.  Hence, it is vital that our Faith Leaders also play an integral role in our community as there may be those who are within your congregations who may be impacted by these decisions as community members.

COYAD Youth Olympics

COYAD hosted an Anti-Bully & Drug Prevention Youth Olympic on March 5, 2022. 


The event, held at the COYAD Atlanta Center, was an event to provide anti-bully and drug prevention education through playing mini Olympic games with friends and families altogether. Grand Master Do Jae-sun, President of the COYAD Taekwondo organization committee, encouraged the children and awarded the winners. 


After the Olympic Games, Duke Lee, the Taekwondo director of the COYAD Milwaukee branch, provided anti-bully education, and Mr. Greg Mahalick, who was appointed as the COYAD Midwest Regional Youth Advisor, provided anti-drug education.


COYAD continues to campaign to create a healthy drug-free society by focusing on drug prevention education, leadership training, and mentoring. COYAD hopes many people will participate and support in protecting and protecting adolescents. The upcoming program can be found on the COYAD website www.coyad.org.

COYAD 1st Drug Prevention Video & Poster Contest Award Ceremony

The awards ceremony for the 1st Drug Prevention Video and Poster Contest hosted by COYAD was held at the Coyard Atlanta Center on the 1st of February 2022. 


On the day of the awards ceremony, Solicitor General of Gwinnett County Brian Whiteside, Principal of Atlanta Korean School Kim Hyun-kyung, Chairman of the 625 National Merit Association, Man-soo Shim, Marketing Manager of the Atlanta Chosun Ilbo  Deuk-ho Song, and Rev. Jae Sun Do awarded the certificate to the winners. A total of 7 winners were selected, 5 in the poster category and 2 in the video category. The poster category winners are Yebin Kim (General Division), Shin Ji-Hye (General Division), Philip Jeong (Elementary School Students), Catherine Gaynor (General Division), and Rachel Kim (General Division). Meanwhile, this contest was sponsored by First IC Bank, Amy Park Insurance, Atlanta Korean School, and the Atlanta Chosun Ilbo.

COYAD Youth Book Club

COYAD is inviting elementary and middle school students to the COYAD Blook Club every Sunday at 2 PM at COYAD Atlanta Center. This book club has been led by Shelly Mao currently a high student at North View high school since the summer of 2021. There are no requirements to join the group. COYAD is welcoming anybody who is interested in reading books together.

On Monday, January 10, 2022, COYAD President Mr. Paul B. Lim met Mr.and Mrs. Yang from the Atlanta International Table Tennis Academy AITTA and discussed collaborating with COYAD. They discussed the importance of a drug-free environment and the importance of training healthy youth leaders both physically and mentally. 


Atlanta International Table Tennis Academy is dedicated to helping serious players of all levels achieve their individual fitness and professional goals.
